MADISON, Wis. — To help credit unions prepare for the 2007 hurricane and severe storm season, CUNA Mutual Group has developed a new resource tool titled "Risk Report, Disaster Preparedness: Prepare for the Unexpected."
The report provides a CEO-level awareness article and outlines "critical high-level" steps credit union management needs to understand to prepare for disasters and the recovery process. However, even well-prepared credit unions may find themselves unexpectedly hit by disaster, said Mike Retelle, CUNA Mutual's Disaster Response team leader and credit union protection claims manager.
"The best written disaster plans may need to be changed on the fly. You've got to be prepared for the unexpected," Retelle said.
