MADISON, Wis. — The Freedom First Federal Credit Union/Virginia Tech Memorial Fund will receive donations from CUNA and CUNA Mutual Group.
The fund was established by Freedom First to support the recovery and renewal process following the recent tragic shooting at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
CUNA Mutual said it will donate $10,000 and CUNA will contribute $5,000.
“Our thoughts are with the students, faculty and families of those affected by this senseless tragedy,” said Jeff Post, president/CEO of CUNA Mutual. “We hope this contribution will help facilitate the healing process.”
The memorial fund will be directed toward the college's Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund and used to cover expenses, including grief counseling, memorials, communication and comfort expenses and incidental needs.
“Certainly the tradition and hallmark of the credit union movement has been 'people helping people,'” said Dan Mica, CUNA president/CEO. “At CUNA, we hope that this contribution will serve as a reminder that the movement is committed to these values, while sharing them with the Hokie community as it begins healing and recovering.”
Freedom First FCU has two branches on Virginia Tech's campus and has served the college since 1986.
