ARLINGTON, Va. — NAFCU was encouraging its members to communicate with their members of Congress during the recess the last two weeks.

"We're trying to drum up as much support as possible for CURIA," NAFCU Director of Political Affairs Dillon Shea said. The group has sent postcards out to all of its 800-plus members over the recess, one asking their representative to sign on to the bill and another thanking Congressmen Paul Kanjorski (D-Pa.) and Ed Royce (R-Calif.) for introducing the Credit Union Regulatory Improvements Act (H.R. 1537) again. The two have taken a lot of heat from the banking trades according to Shea. NAFCU was hoping members of Congress will have a bright green stack of postcards waiting for them when they return to Washington, D.C. after the district work period. Officially the bill currently has 47 co-sponsors, including Kanjorski, who is reportedly recovering well from triple bypass surgery. The bill garnered 125 co-sponsors last Congress.
