EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — Continental Federal Credit Union todayexpressed its appreciation to its members and its regulator in“successfully defending itself against” Wings Financial FCU.

“We are thrilled that Wings Financial has withdrawn its mergerproposal and ended its attempt to take over our credit union,” saidTom Glatt, president/CEO of Continental FCU. “We cannot thank ourmembers, our volunteers and the NCUA enough for their supportduring the last month as we battled to keep our credit unionindependent.”

Glatt continued, “In working to protect our independence, ourBoard and our management have been fulfilling our responsibility toserve the long-term interests of our members. Our members are proudof their independent credit union, and want us to stay that way.Through thousands of emails, phone calls, pledges of support andpersonal visits to our branches, members have used strong languageto voice their choice for independence. We take great pride in thefact that our members are very happy with their credit union, andhave no interest in losing it.”
