HARBOR, Ore. — Chetco Federal Credit Union is lending a hand to area search and rescue missions.

The credit union has partnered with the newly formed Guardians From Above, to assist in community search and rescue readiness.

CFCU has donated $2,500 to help with the cost of purchasing the Skymaster plane and the necessary radio equipment. In addition, CFCU will help promote events to raise money for the community-based organization.

South Coast Squadron Civil Air Patrol Commander, Scott Bakker, and retired United Airlines Captain, Tom Moore, formed an LLC to obtain funding for the purchase of a Skymaster.

Charter sponsors include Dr. Douglas Walker from the Eye Center and Ellen Winger, family nurse practitioner.

Guardians From Above will be the "lifeline to the community" in assisting in search and rescue and also can provide mercy flights to Portland or Roseburg for those without the resources to join ill family members. It can also provide service for veterans who need assistance in getting to the Roseburg VA Hospital.
