SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane Federal Credit Union has helped ensure the Lakeside Middle School Color Guard keeps throwing, twisting, stomping and spinning in a show of school spirit.

The credit union's recent $700 donation helped provide new equipment for the nine-member squad that supports the band and other school activities.

Prior to the donation, the squad practiced with torn, crudely patched flags and poles that often caused painful splinters.

Past performances include the standing-room-only band Christmas Concert and half time shows for the varsity middle school boys' and varsity girls' high school basketball games.

Currently the team is preparing to sport their new flags and poles during a march with the band in the Jr. Lilac Parade.

Color Guard challenges and stimulates growth on many levels: mental, social, time sequence, organization, teamwork, and cooperation. These traits will help the girls not only with school spirit but also with leadership skills.
