VACAVILLE, Calif. -- Travis Credit Union has recently sponsoredthe 11th Annual Chinese-American Association of Solano County's NewYear Celebration.

The credit union joined local, regional and national dignitariesto commemorate the 4,705th Chinese New Year --"The Year of thePig".

Festivities included a Chinese lion dance, acrobats, singers anda Chinese buffet. In addition, Martin Yan, master chef and host ofthe popular PBS cooking show Yan Can Cook!, gave a free cookingdemonstration and signed his cookbooks.

The sold out event raised funds to offer educationalscholarships to Solano County high school students from variousethnic backgrounds.

The event marked the beginning of the Lunar New Year 4705. Theholiday is not only celebrated by the Chinese, but also incountries that have been influenced by Chinese culture, such asJapan, India, Korea, Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand, as well as incommunities with large Chinese populations.
