VACAVILLE, Calif. -- Travis Credit Union has recently sponsored the 11th Annual Chinese-American Association of Solano County's New Year Celebration.

The credit union joined local, regional and national dignitaries to commemorate the 4,705th Chinese New Year --"The Year of the Pig".

Festivities included a Chinese lion dance, acrobats, singers and a Chinese buffet. In addition, Martin Yan, master chef and host of the popular PBS cooking show Yan Can Cook!, gave a free cooking demonstration and signed his cookbooks.

The sold out event raised funds to offer educational scholarships to Solano County high school students from various ethnic backgrounds.

The event marked the beginning of the Lunar New Year 4705. The holiday is not only celebrated by the Chinese, but also in countries that have been influenced by Chinese culture, such as Japan, India, Korea, Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand, as well as in communities with large Chinese populations.
