BATON ROUGE — Louisiana Financial Institutions Deputy Commissioner Doris Gunn, a 24-year veteran of the agency, passed away Wed., Feb. 28 after battling cancer.

The regulator joined the Office of Financial Institutions in 1982 as a field examiner. From there, her career progressed to become the chief examiner of savings and loans and credit unions, and then the chief examiner of banks. She served as deputy commissioner for the past 14 years and as acting commissioner for one and a half of those years. The State Civil Service System also recognized Gunn, who twice received Honorable Mention for the Charles E. Dunbar Jr. Award. She was a NASCUS board member for four years, two of those on the executive committee. "Doris' dedication and passion for the state credit union system were without limits," NASCUS President/CEO Mary Martha Fortney remarked. "She will be missed very much by NASCUS, her family, friends and colleagues."

Funeral services were scheduled for March 3. The burial took place last week in Yazoo City, Miss.
