ROCK HILL, S.C. — A Founders Federal Credit Union branch located at Ebenezer Avenue Elementary School is doing its part to encourage savings among students here.

Offering students a mix of awards and incentives, the branch focuses on teaching kids the value of money and the importance of savings.

Students who join the credit union receive a free gift with their initial deposit. When a student deposits $25 they join the Daniel the Spaniel Kids Savings Club and receive a free customized t-shirt. When a student's deposits reach $50, they receive another free gift. And, at the end of the year, the class with the most money saved receives a free ice cream party.

The in-school branch, run by instructors at the school is open each Monday during the school year so students can make deposits to their accounts.

“This is a unique way for students to learn the value of saving money,” said Bruce Brumfield, president/CEO of Founders FCU. “The incentives given along the way, allow the students to set several savings goals.”
