Arkansas Federal Credit Union, Jacksonville, Ark., was voted the "Best Credit Union In Arkansas" for 2006 by the readers of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette newspaper. Annually, the newspaper prints a listing of business categories and invites readers to fill in the blank of the best business in each category. In 2006, Best Credit Union was added to the list for the first time and the readers voted AFCU the Best Credit Union in Arkansas. The Illinois Credit Union League recently honored Consumers Credit Union, Waukegan, Ill., with two statewide awards. The CU earned first place in the Louise Herring competition for demonstrating the credit union philosophy in action and second place in the Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility competition. CCU earned the Louise Herring Award because of the CU's continuous efforts to extend the value of credit union products and services throughout its field of membership and earned second place in the Dora Maxwell competition for its community involvement as a major sponsor for Lake County's Most Influential African American Banquet. The World Council of Credit Unions, Inc. has honored David Low, director of audit and compliance at OSU Federal, Your Community Credit Union, Corvallis, Ore., for his international work and volunteerism in Uzbekistan. Low made three extensive trips to the central Asian republic in 2005 and 2006 on behalf of the WOCCU. OSU Federal donated Low's time to the effort. Pacific Resource Credit Union, Los Angeles, has won first-place, statewide honors for the Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Award program in its asset category. The award was granted to recognize Pacific Resource's success in partnering with the Elder Financial Protection Network to co-host an all-day conference dedicated to confronting elder financial abuse.
