ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Peter C. Barrett, NCUA Chairman JoAnn Johnson announced, began as her new senior policy advisor as of Feb. 12.

Barrett has a long legislative r?sum?, most recently serving as senior counsel to the majority staff of the House Financial Services Committee from 2003 through 2007. While there, he successfully worked a number of bills into law, including the Deposit Insurance Reform Act and the Financial Services Regulatory Relief Act.

Prior to serving on the committee, he was counsel and judicial assistant to Chief Judge Thomas F. Hogan in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, the same judge that presided over the embezzlement trial of former manager of the American Samoan Government Employees Federal Credit Union Bernard Gurr that made Credit Union Times headlines in 2003 at sentencing; counsel of the Archdiocesan Legal Network; and on the majority staff in the Senate Banking Committee. Barrett holds a Juris Doctorate from the University of Notre Dame Law School and a bachelor's in American History from Brown University.

Barrett replaces Holly Herman who left the agency late last year to pursue other credit union-related interests.
