RALEIGH, N.C. — State Employees' Credit Union is holding a mirror up to members and they like what they see–owners.

The credit union has added full-length mirrors displaying the message “Meet SECU's Owners–You're Looking Good!” in its branch lobbies.

The 5' x 7' mirrors are being installed in SECU branches during 2007. Faced with the challenge of describing the qualities that make nonprofit cooperatives unique, the concept is designed to demonstrate the CU difference by helping members see themselves in a different way–as owners of a nonprofit cooperative. “Making sure members understand they own State Employees' Credit Union is vital to the continued success of our credit union,” said SECU President/CEO Jim Blaine. “Sometimes we have to think outside of the box to deliver that message. Branch mirrors are an eye-catching way to force members to look at themselves as owners. After all, they are the true reflection of what makes our credit union unique–there really is a difference!”

The mirror project follows other “member-owner” promotions, including “SECU–I'm a Member-Owner” window decals provided to members, as well as “SECU Member-Owner” jackets distributed to the credit union's over 1,500 volunteers.
