SANTA ANA, Calif. –The $845 million Orange County's Credit Union has introduced Vida Prospera, a new educational checking and savings program, at a Latino Community Fair that the CU sponsored on Jan. 27.
The Fair featured numerous community organization booths, activities for families, entertainment, and refreshments. Over 500 members of the community turned out to enjoy the festivities and learn more about Vida Prospera. Vida Propera is "Prosperous Life" in Spanish.
"This was one of the greatest days in the history of our credit union," said Orange County's Credit Union CEO, Judy McCartney. "Everyone wants the American Dream and today we have helped so many." Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez (D), who represents the 47th Congressional District in California, attended the Latino Community Fair to show her support, the CU said.
Vida Prospera fits Orange County's vision for community development that goes beyond financial services to include financial literacy as well, the CU said. Vida Prospera is a checking and savings program designed to help members of the community expand awareness of mainstream financial services while learning the basics of financial management, the CU said. Beyond food and entertainment, the Latino Community Fair hosted several booths from community outreach alliances including: Families Together of Orange County, Cerritos College Project Hope, and Legal Aid Society. The partners came together to combine their specific knowledge and experience to share with the community. The highlight of the event was the Mobile Mexican Consulate, which helped 248 community members obtain Matricula Consular documentation papers, so they can be eligible to register for financial institution programs, including Vida Prospera.
