AUGUSTA, Maine — The Augusta-based Maine State Credit Union announced its successful merger with Greater Waterville Area Federal Credit Union.

The merger makes Maine State Credit Union the largest credit union in Maine with more than 25,000 members and assets over $227 million. The Greater Waterville Area facility will continue as a branch of Maine State Credit Union, bringing the total number of branches to three.

The credit union offers many financial products and services including no-fee checking accounts, savings and deposit accounts, student savings programs, Visa check cards, Visa credit cards, and a full line of lending services including home mortgages, construction loans, home equity loans and lines of credit, and auto loans. Maine State Credit Union was founded in 1935 and currently serves anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in Kennebec or Somerset Counties, or is employed by the State of Maine.
