TROY, Mich. — If Larry Tankeloff has his way, GalaxyPlus is going to be coming out of its shell.

"I think that for a while the organization has been a little introverted," says the new president of the venerable Fiserv core processing unit for credit unions, a Fiserv property since 1991 and based in the Detroit suburb of Troy since 1965.

"But now we're undergoing what I would characterize, if you don't mind me saying, as a renaissance," Tankeloff says.

The 50-year-old former senior vice president of operations at USERS Inc. in Valley Forge, Pa. takes over the reins of a 310-client core processor with about 200 employees and a product lineup that Tankeloff plans to continue to refine and expand using both "the considerable talent we have in-house and the resources all across Fiserv."

GalaxyPlus has begun distributing Fiserv's Wisdom General Ledger and multi-factor authentication tools. Meanwhile, technologies originated in-house, including contact management and automated enrollment tools, are being adopted across the seven-member Fiserv core processing group, Tankeloff says.

"What we're working on here, is we have an eye on serving all 2,850 Fiserv credit union clients," he says. "And the other units are continuing to create products for us to use to help serve our own credit unions."

As an example, he notes, GalaxyPlus has been selling call-center technology created with USERS' new Maestro systems/workflow integration software and has sold its own products to credit unions using core systems from AFTECH, Summit and even outside the Fiserv umbrella, at Symitar credit unions.

GalaxyPlus also has been bolstering the performance of its NetBranch Plus home banking solution and member-relationship tools, such as creating 24/7 call center availability with PSCU that makes that service affordable for even small credit unions.

"We're also going to continue building out our data center infrastructure for both in-house and online clients and becoming much more transparent and seamless in the delivery of products to both," Tankeloff says.

That approach also is holistic, helping credit unions leverage technology to deal with an increasingly challenging environment of expanded charters and competition with solutions and processes that focus on improving return-on-assets, inverted yield curves, workflow and operating efficiencies and even reward programs for members.

"For the past seven years, I've been involved with Fiserv sister companies working at creating a business model that serves clients while leveraging the human capital we have," Tankeloff says.

"We're using our human capital very well, I think," he says. "And we're going to continue in that direction while further to deepen our already deep relationship with our GalaxyPlus clients."

That means spending a lot of time on the road, meeting with GalaxyPlus credit unions and working toward bringing in new clients, especially larger credit unions, in line with the size generally by his former employer.

Tankeloff has spent the past 17 years at USERS, where he led online operations and headed up business development and client delivery services as well as made his mark as a CUSO chairman and in other key volunteer roles at $990 million Citadel Federal Credit Union in Thorndale, Pa. "I've been very involved with my own credit union. Getting engaged and getting involved makes me a better member and I think that kind of approach is important to being a better partner with our clients, too," Tankeloff says. As the new year unfolds, Tankeloff says he plans to be on the road a lot, getting to know GalaxyPlus clients and sharing his vision for his new company.

"I think there's a lot of exciting things happening here at GalaxyPlus, and I think we're going to surprise a lot of people," Tankeloff says. –[email protected]
