Thank you for the front-page article in your Nov. 22, 2006 issue titled “California/Nevada League Credit Unions Laud Cheney for “Seamless Transition’.” First I must say the transition has been seamless and I look forward to working with Bill Cheney, our new president/CEO. As the incoming chairman of the Nevada Credit Union League, I must point out some misleading information that I am sure is unintentional yet needs to be clarified. The Nevada Credit Union League continues as a separate organization from the California Credit Union League, with both organizations maintaining a board of directors. Bill Cheney is president/CEO of both leagues and the Nevada Credit Union League enjoys an excellent management agreement from the California Credit Union League. Maintaining a separate league offers more opportunities for credit union participation and more focus on our particular legislative agendas, both in Carson City and Washington, D.C. Nevada credit unions provide ample participants and lobbying efforts at the CUNA Governmental Affairs Conference activities in February. Nevada League board members and other credit union executives are highly involved in political action with Nevada Government Relations and PAC Committees. We also raise a substantial amount of money for Children’s Miracle Network and boast our own league chapters, both in Southern and Northern Nevada. Two representatives from the Nevada board of directors are committee members of the political advocacy advertising campaign masterminded by the California Credit Union League. Twenty-five of 30 credit unions in Nevada are league members. As a convenience, the Nevada Credit Union League annual meeting is held at the same conference as the California Credit Union League. The most recent conference was held at the Bellagio in Las Vegas as reported in the article in your magazine. Our next annual meeting will be held in conjunction with the California Credit Union League annual meeting in San Diego Nov. 11-14, 2007 at a separate time and location.
