BALTIMORE — For its ongoing work in helping to build the communities it serves, HOPE Community Credit Union is one of the recipients of a $500,000 award from the Annie E. Casey Foundation.

The $44 million credit union will share the monetary award with its close partner, Enterprise Corporation of the Delta, a community development financial institution that provides financial products and services in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and the Greater Memphis area of Tennessee. Together, the two have developed a network of banks, corporations, nonprofits and faith-based organizations to invest in low-income neighborhoods, while serving families directly. By joining forces, these two economic engines have generated more than $300 million in financing to help families and communities thrive.

"These organizations deserve our recognition and accolades for putting families on solid ground and giving them the tools to build bright futures," said Douglas Nelson, president of the Casey Foundation. "No matter where the honorees reach families, they have the ingredients to help them succeed: financial and parenting education, health care solutions, and economic, social and career-building opportunities."

Founded in 1948, the Annie E. Casey Foundation is a private, charitable organization dedicated to helping build better futures for disadvantaged children and families in the United States. The award is a part of the foundation's Families Count: The National Honors Program. The Casey Foundation recognizes Families Count honorees during National Family Week, Nov. 19 to 25, to emphasize the important role organizations play in strengthening families and communities. The honorees can use the unrestricted awards in whatever way will best support their goals, according to the foundation.

Bill Bynum, president/CEO of ECD/HOPE, said receiving the honor is a reflection of the families' dedications, strength and hard work.

"We've assisted more than 25,000 people through affordable financial services and related assistance," Bynum said. "They're not just buying homes. Many of these people have built on those assets and established a stronger financial foundation for their families."

ECD/HOPE joins three others that will receive the award: Family Service Association of San Antonio, Inc., Mary's Center for Maternal and Child Care in Washington and Southern Good Faith Fund in Pine Bluff, Ark. –[email protected]
