SHREWSBURY, N.J. -- Don't try to classify billion dollar creditunions because you can't.

The following list of the nation's 111 credit unions with onebillion dollars or more in assets shows these credit unions areabout as diverse as it gets. There are single-sponsors, communitycharters, and multi-SEG credit unions.

They are spread out across more than 30 states, and many havemorphed from their original sponsor, which is reflected by numerousname changes. The nation's fourth largest CU, BECU, was formerlyBoeing Employees Credit Union. It changed its name to reflect itsdiversifying membership. Then there's Truliant Federal CreditUnion, the credit union made famous in the bankers' lawsuit whenthe CU was named AT&T Family Federal Credit Union.
