SAN DIEGO — The 2006 Mission Federal Credit Union Memory Walk, held in San Diego's Balboa Park, helped raise $360,000 for the San Diego chapter of the Alzheimer's Association–surpassing last year's event by more than $100,000.
More than 2,000 people came out for the early morning 5K, which was emceed by local television news anchor Bill Menish. The chair of the event was former San Diego Padres manager and new San Francisco Giants skipper Bruce Bochy. Both Menish and Bochy have personal family ties to Alzheimer's.
Mission Federal became title sponsor of this year's Memory Walk to honor its former board member Dr. Len Servetter, who once served as superintendent of Chula Vista Elementary School District; Dr. Servetter was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease 11 years ago.

The funds raised by the Mission Federal Credit Union Memory Walk will be used to support local Alzheimer's disease programs and services for the families of the 90,000 San Diegans coping daily with the disease.
In addition to being title sponsor of the Memory Walk, Mission Federal Credit Union assembled the largest corporate team–200 strong–comprised of staff, family, friends and members who brought in donations of $10,000.
