WALNUT CREEK, Calif. — Wanting to help young adults become more financially savvy, Pacific Service Credit Union has launched the first in a series of educational podcasts.

Available on its Web site, www.pacificservice.org, the first podcast focuses on the "ABCs of Good Credit" and includes topics ranging from building good credit and fees charged to understanding interest rates.

"As part of our ongoing efforts to provide financial education to young adults we developed this series of podcasts," stated Tom Smigielski, president of Pacific Service CU. "For some time now industry statistics have shown that financial literacy among young consumers is very low. Our efforts are geared to assist young adults in becoming financially savvy."

The podcast series was developed based on input from the credit union's Youth Advisory Council for topics and content. Comprised of eight young adult members between the ages of 16 and 21, the council provides feedback on concepts, design and the value of new products and services to young adult consumers.

For the implementation of the podcasts, Pacific Service CU retained the services of Subcat Marketing in Southern California. "Pacific Service is on the cutting edge of reaching out to young consumers," said James Flores, president of Subcat Marketing. "What's impressive is the sincerity of the credit union's interest in educating young adults, instead of using the typical hard sell approach to this market segment."
