WASHINGTON — Congressman John Spratt (D-S.C.), ranking member of the Budget Committee, expressed his support for the credit union tax-exemption in a recent letter to the members of the South Carolina Credit Union League. The Aug. 22 letter states, "Credit unions have carved out a special role in our country, partly by making good use of your tax exempt status. Credit unions have offered financial services as diverse as they are affordable to your members and communities. It is important that credit unions continue to grow, prosper, and offer members a wide array of good choices, and clearly your tax exempt status helps."
