MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Alabama Governor Bob Riley became one of MAX, Your Community Credit Union!'s newest members. He opened a share account during his visit to the Eastdale office. Pleasantly surprised by the governor's visit to meet MAX associates and tour the facility, MAX Manager of Quality Assurance Nancy Reams invited the Governor to become a member. Governor Riley said, "The thing that always amazes and impresses me is the way members feel about their credit unions. This is truly unique. MAX is doing a great job taking care of its members." According to MAX CEO Greg McClellan, Governor Riley has been a supporter of credit unions dating back to his terms in Congress representing the third district of Alabama. He supported credit unions in 1998 after the banking industry sought to place very strict restrictions on credit unions. Riley was surprised that he could join MAX for only $6 and signed his account paperwork before leaving the credit union. "Governor Riley's visit was an honor for MAX and is an indication that MAX's name and reputation is well respected," said McClellan. "He has continued to support credit unions and we are grateful for his support as the banking industry continues to attempt to place restrictions on credit unions threatening our tax exemption."
