TORONTO – Even though two of the six candidates for the open slots on NAFCU's board were volunteers, none won seats on the board, which left one disappointed volunteer asking why?

Pentagon Federal Credit Union Vice Chair Bob Scott ran for NAFCU's Board the last two years, but was not elected. He asked the board during NAFCU's annual business meeting what dialogue has gone on since last year when the issue of the lack of volunteers serving on the national trade association board was raised at the business meeting. Then-NAFCU Chairman Mike Vadala assured that the issue of promoting volunteer participation on NAFCU's board had been discussed.

NAFCU President and CEO Fred Becker chimed in, "It's not an easy thing to get elected to the NAFCU Board and I think that's a good thing, not a bad thing."

Last year, Marlene Schwartz, chair of State Department Federal Credit Union, raised the issue; she too has run both years unsuccessfully.
