OMAHA, Neb. - Warren Buffett's autographed $1 bill was fetching $1,600 as the latest bid in the Nebraska Credit Union League's "e-bid for Kids" auction raising money for Children's Miracle Network. The $1,600 represents the highest online bid submitted so far in the auction, which began July 5 and ends July 21. "We do have bidders from New York to California and just about everywhere in between," said Laura Polak, director of marketing for the league and coordinator of e-bid for Kids. So far more than $5,000 has been raised toward a $10,000 goal in the online auction, which is getting local promotion on TV news shows. Other items creating high interest include a pair of University of Nebraska Husker football tickets going for $150 and a trip to the 2007 CUNA Mutual Group annual conference going for $800. Polak said she couldn't predict where the bidding might stop on the Buffett bill, which was purchased by the league "from a credit union individual" and then donated for the auction. "And we got it before all the recent Buffett publicity which is a good thing," said Polak.
