CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Three executives from North Carolina Community Development Credit Unions took part in a 25-minute broadcast on WUNC's The State of Things program which is heard across the state.
Randy Chambers, CFO of the $247 million Self Help Credit Union in Durham; Luis Pastor, CEO of the $34 million Latino Credit Union; and Saundra Scales, president of the $26 million First Legacy FCU, (formerly School Workers Federal Credit Union) in Charlotte were interviewed on CDCUs generally and on how CDCUs help low-income people and immigrant groups.
Residents were able to call into the program and callers asked questions about the relationship between so-called mainstream credit unions and CDCUs and whether some CDCUs can help small businesses that are owned and operated by minorities.
