WASHINGTON – CUNA and NAFCU are working under the auspices of America's Credit Unions to scour Capitol Hill with a print ad letting the bankers' know it is time to "knock it off."

The ad, featuring a credit union member, is just the latest effort in a series of advertisements the credit unions have been running that have pointed out the community banks' real problems come from larger banks and highlighting Congressman Butch Otter's (R-Idaho) strong support for credit unions. NAFCU Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Dan Berger explained the ad campaign "is an effort by NAFCU, CUNA and CUNA Mutual to inform folks of the truth about the bankers' attacks on credit unions."

"As a single parent with a full-time job, making ends meet for my family wasn't always easy. When I needed to refinance my home the banks said no," Karen Johnston, a human resources professional and member of American Heritage Federal Credit Union, explains in a caption next to her photo. "But my credit union was there to help." With the credit union's assistance she was then able to pay off her mortgage and fund her son's education.

Johnston continued, "It's a shame that despite their record profits, banks want to stop my credit union from providing the services that I deserve. The bankers had their chance for my business. So when banks attack credit unions, join me in telling them it's time to Knock it off."

The print ad will run in Capitol Hill media outlets Roll Call, The Hill, Congress Daily and CQ Today through mid-June.

CUNA Senior Vice President for Political Affairs Richard Gose explained, "We're hoping that this message will start resonating. We want Congress to understand that it is not us putting them into this fight but the banks."
