MaPS Credit Union Hosts Shred Day PHOTO: MaPS CU is making it harder for thieves to steal the identity of locals by sponsoring a "Shred Event". SALEM, Ore.- In addition to "Tax Day" Marion and Polk Schools Credit Union (MaPS) wants local consumers to think of April 15th as "Shred Day." Co-sponsored by Garten Services, Inc., local KBZY 1490 Radio, and MaPS the second annual event is designed to help in the battle against identity theft. "Much of our identity theft losses come from old papers we toss away, according to the Federal Trade Commission," said MaPS President/CEO Dan Penn. "Shredding documents is one sure way to combat the problem." Garten Services, Inc. will collect and shred the papers in the credit union's South Salem Branch parking lot. The Garten truck holds 7,000 pounds, but participants are limited to two medium-sized boxes each.
