MONGOMERY, Ala.. – Identity thieves should watch out- Alabama isarming its residents with the tools they need to better recognizescams. Recently the Credit Union Coalition of Alabama teamed upwith the Alabama Attorney General Troy King to create a PublicService Announcement on identity theft. The PSA led to the Alabamalegislature passing the first Alabama identity theft bill and onMarch 15, 2006, Governor Bob Riley signed the Identity Theft Bill.Attorney General Troy King visited each of the Coalition creditunions and presented the PSA to the media and the public. “TheCredit Union Coalition of Alabama is proud to work with theAttorney General's office to combat identity theft in the state ofAlabama. We want all consumers to be well informed on the ways toprotect their good name,” said Coalition Chairman and Redstone CEOGerald Toland. “Each member credit union of the Coalition hasvaluable tips on their Web sites for more information and weencourage consumers to visit any Alabama credit union to find moreof the useful tools to help protect them from identity theft.” TheCredit Union Coalition of Alabama is made up of the six largestcredit unions in Alabama – Alabama Telco CU, America's First FCU,APCO CU, Army Aviation Center FCU, MAX FCU, and Redstone FCU.
