SHREWSBURY, N.J. – Last month NCUA announced that it would begin collecting data from 481 credit unions in an effort to assess how credit unions are serving members of modest means. Some credit union leaders are very wary of this initiative, concerned that the data won't reflect all the good that credit unions do and will provide even more fodder for bankers to use in an effort to get credit unions taxed. Other credit union leaders welcome the initiative, and expect credit unions to shine. This is the subject of Credit Union Times' new voting poll question. The question is as follows: What will be the result of NCUA's data collection initiative? * The data will indicate credit unions are not doing a good job serving members of modest means. * The data will prove that credit unions are doing a good job serving members of modest means. * The data will be inconclusive and leave the question of modest mean service still unanswered. * Not sure.
