ALEXANDRIA, Va. – The credit union industry has lost one of its most respected volunteers. Eugene Ball, 88, passed away on Feb. 28. A military service was held on March 13 at Arlington National Cemetery. Ball, who spent 50 years in the military, joined the board of Pentagon FCU in 1975, serving until 2002. He was renowned for his efforts on credit union volunteer leadership. In 2002, the National Association of Credit Union Chairmen established the Gene Ball Award to recognize outstanding leadership in credit union chairmen. Ball was also inducted into the Defense Credit Union Council Hall of Fame and received the Credit Union Executives Society's Directors' Educational Forum Director of the Year Award in 1999. He is remembered by his wife Rosemarie A. E. Ball, his sons Dr. Duane E. Ball and Dr. Dean R. Ball and his grandson Dylan. J. Ball.
