VIENNA, Va.-Navy Federal Credit Union has announced it will no longer be participating in the Correspondent Credit Union Program that it started more than 30 years ago. Navy implemented the CCUP in 1975, which allowed participating credit unions to initiate money transfers for members traveling or living away from their credit union through the use of a Credit Union Money Order. The CUMO transferred their funds from their institution to a local participating one. But times have changed and other more convenient and popular alternatives have been developed, like online banking and shared branching. "After a detailed review of the program, we found that the number of members and credit unions requesting CUMOs have steadily and significantly declined," Navy Federal Vice President of Debit Cards and Funds Services Dave Willis said.
