SANTA ROSA, Calif., – With identity theft a growing consumer concern, Redwood Credit Union has teamed up with the National Association of Professional Organizers to host a "Shred-A-Thon" event for locals here. Tapping the services of Shred-It, the credit union invited individuals and businesses in the community to bring their confidential and personal documents to be shredded on the spot at no charge. Despite a pouring rain, over 175 people stood in line to destroy their sensitive documents. The three-hour event resulted in some eight tons of shredded paper. "We are committed to helping our members and neighbors in the community learn how to protect themselves against identity theft and fraud," said RCU President /CEO Brett Martinez. "One of the easiest and most effective precautions is to shred sensitive documents, such as old financial statements, cancelled checks, credit card offers, and other outdated documents containing personal information."
