TEHRAN, Iran – The Samen Taavoni Credit Union based in Tehran was founded in 1997 to help soldiers and their families who had been affected by the Iranian-Iraqi war. They are now the largest credit union in the country. Membership is open to anyone. More than 1,700 employees service members through 320 branches. The membership has US$1.8 million in savings. The credit union has issued 367,700 loans. The IT specialist, J. Molaei, is extremely proud of his IT systems. He says, "our database engine is on an SQLServer." The branches have an internal network many of which are wireless. The credit union is open six days a week. On Friday, the Muslim holy day, the offices are closed.
