SAN DIEGO – Credit Unions for Kids' (CUFK) fundraising efforts for Children's Hospital and Health Center has earned it the Children's Hospital Inspiration Fountain Award. CUFK was recognized for raising $1 million for the hospital over the past nine years. CUFK's contributions primarily support the Patient Care Fund, which directly helps patients through programs, services and technology. "Credit Unions for Kids directly reflects the credit union philosophy of People Helping People. It's an opportunity to not only give back to the communities in which we serve, but also enjoy a gratifying experience with our members," said Linda Rossi chair of CUFK, and representative for San Diego Metropolitan Credit Union. Founded in San Diego County in 1996 CUFK has grown from two credit unions selling Miracle Balloons during the month of May to 17 credit unions working together to raise an average of $160,000 per year. In addition, more than $100,000 of the annual contributions are raised during the annual Children's Miracle Month of May campaign. In addition to the Miracle Month of May campaign, CUFK members meet monthly to discuss various money-raising events for Children's including: Kids' NewsDay, Children's Radiothon and holiday fundraisers. "CUFK shares a common bond in helping to keep our San Diego children safe through their outstanding leadership and commitment to Children's Hospital. We deeply appreciate the dedication and passion of our local credit unions," said Mindy Collins, Children's corporate development coordinator.
