MADISON, Wis. – Women in credit union leadership positions – and those who aspire to be – can expand their professional and leadership boundaries during the second annual women in leadership offering from CUNA. The 2006 Women's Leadership Conference will take place May 7-10 in San Francisco, with the focus on diversity, political advocacy, professional development and networking. Conference highlights include a global perspective of the credit union movement, U.S. demographics and trends and the effects on credit unions, leadership considerations such as individual/team building and diversity, and advancing political advocacy within credit unions and at a grassroots level. In addition, a panel discussion with women leaders from within the credit union movement will offer advice on advancing political advocacy at their respective credit unions and practical solutions and strategies to strengthen leadership. RaAnn Wood, CEO of $8 million California Center CU in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., and an attendee of last year's conference, commented on the importance of advancing political advocacy in credit unions because, "We represent the local face and voice of our communities and advocacy is one way of making the needs of our communities known.
