LANSING, Mich. – Citizens Choice FCU which has been serving the Lansing community since 1952, has joined the CapCom family. The $24.5 million CU merged with Capital Community CU, a $224.7 million CU. Just a little over a year ago, LSI CU, Grand Rapids merged into CapCom also. According to CapCom, the merger of Citizens Choice FCU was in the planning stages for most of 2005. In December, the merger was approved by a majority of Citizens Choice's 6,000 members who voted. Regulators recently approved the merger as well. Debra Beyer, Citizen's Choice's past CEO and current CapCom senior vice president, said with all the changes taking place in the Greenville, Mich. area, the CU's board was concerned about Citizen's Choice's long term future and felt it was in its members' best interest to find a strong merger partner.
