LOS ANGELES – On Feb. 2, the state of Pennsylvania will launch a statewide electronic notarization system that will likely serve as a model for other states across the nation. The system is the result of a joint effort between the National Notary Association (NNA) and the Pennsylvania Department of State. Using technology from Microsoft and GeoTrust, the NNA developed the two key components of the system: an electronic notary seal (ENS) and a national e-notary registry. "E-notarization will change the landscape of county recording and notarization by replacing older business practices and technologies and sculpting the environment with newer and more efficient ones," said Joan Decker, commissioner of records for the city of Philadelphia. "But security must be maintained and that is why we are so pleased to work with the NNA to develop a secure system."
