WASHINGTON-NAFCU/PAC has been fined $1,000 by the Federal Election Commission for a filing violation. NAFCU/PAC paid a civil penalty of $1,000 to the FEC for an inadvertent error by NAFCU/PAC Treasurer Murray Chanow, NAFCU's director of political affairs, in its end of year report covering post-election 2004. The amended FEC report states that NAFCU/PAC received $56,887.53 in unitemized contributions; the erroneous report stated only $255. Under the agreement reached through the FEC's Alternative Dispute Resolution program, NAFCU will also have two staffers, including Chanow, attend an FEC seminar for political action committees within one year. Chanow commented, “It's $1,000 we raised from our members and it's $1,000 we can't give out.” He added that the penalty is pretty consistent with those for other similar infractions.
