WASHINGTON-CUNA has gotten Bob Woodward to address its Annual General Meeting, which has been moved up from the summer to take place during the Governmental Affairs Conference. The Washington Post investigative journalist of `Deep Throat' fame has agreed to address the meeting on Sunday, Feb. 26 of the GAC. Woodward is an assistant managing editor for the Post and has won nearly every American journalism award during his 35 years at the newspaper. The Post was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in 1973 for the reporting of Woodward and Carl Bernstein on the Watergate scandal. In addition, Woodward was the lead reporter for the Post's articles on the aftermath of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks that won the National Affairs Pulitzer Prize in 2002. Woodward has also written 10 top-selling books with more number-one selling non-fiction books than any other contemporary American writer. The AGM is the annual meeting of the association's members and serves as the starting point for the trade group's elected leadership. CUNA President and CEO Dan Mica said the switch to summertime would provide for recognition of the elected leadership at the organization's largest national conference. Elected officials will now serve through GAC 2007, instead of October 2006; their terms could have been cut short since CUNA moved the Future Forum up to June for 2006. "Essentially, this means that, for this transition year, board members and officers receive five additional months on their terms," Mica explained. "No new officers or board members will be installed at the 2006 AGM, as they will be continuing their service in the posts to which they had been previously selected."
