AVON, Conn. – COCC has added Primary Payment Systems’ check-fraud alert tools to the core processor’s risk-management suite for credit unions and community banks, and one early user says it’s already paid off. COCC, a client-owned provider of core processing and other technologies to more than 125 financial institutions, is using the Early Warning Deposit Risk Service from PPS. Tellers simply swipe a check through a reader, which then transmits information to be checked against PPS’s EarlyWarning databases and provides alerts that help improve decision-making on check cashing and hold placement, COCC says. HarborOne Credit Union in Brockton, Mass., has been alerted to about $2.2 million in potentially fraudulent checks in the system’s first year of use and has deployed it at each of the $1.2 billion CU’s 11 branches, says Carrie O’Halloran, vice president and regional manager at HarborOne. “By adding the Early Warning Deposit Risk Service to our lineup of Sentry Services, we are providing access to a proven fraud risk tool that is already providing dramatic results,” says Wendy DeMore, first vice president of product management for COCC.
