PITTSBURGH – Clearview FCU has provided a $50,000 secondary capital deposit to Hill District FCU, which will enable it to continue providing service to residents in Pittsburgh’s Hill District here. The $2.5 million Hill District FCU said it serves primarily low-income members with small loans for appliances, basic home improvements and other immediate needs. Clearview’s deposit increased the CU’s capital ratio, which will enable it to continue to serve their members. “Many of our members aren’t able to obtain loans from larger financial institutions and often have an urgent need for financial assistance,” said Richard Witherspoon, manager/treasurer. “We also provide services to both members and non-members by processing money orders and selling bus passes. Without the deposit by Clearview it would have been difficult to continue to serve our members.” Mark Brennan, president/CEO of $580 million Clearview FCU, said the CU was, “simply fulfilling the pledge we made to NCUA to help in the community,” stressing it wants to be, “a partner.a big brother to smaller credit unions who need help and assistance.” “We looked at Hill District FCU’s business plan,” Brennan said. “It’s a sound plan and we are confident they will be able to grow and support the needs of their members.” Hill District FCU serves approximately 2,000 members.
