ARVADA, Colo. – The Colorado Credit Union League and Foundation has set up a fund to collect cash and item donations for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. The two groups are also offering technical support to any of the 535 credit unions affected in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. Communication with the Mississippi League has been ongoing in an attempt to find CUs that need IT services including call center operations, call forwarding and email. So far, $15,000 in donations has been made to the National Credit Union Foundation's National Disaster Relief Fund. Of that amount, $5,000 came from the Foundation and the remaining $10,000 was contributed by various credit unions and their members. The Foundation has also collected 50 lightweight jackets and toiletry items including 1,000 mini bars of soap and toothpaste/toothbrush packets. These have been shipped to the Mississippi League for distribution to credit union employees and their families.
