CHICAGO – Nearly 200 state-chartered credit union representatives and state regulators traveled to Chicago Aug. 25-27 to attend the NASCUS Annual Conference & Symposium and to join the association in celebrating its 40th anniversary. The three-day event at the Renaissance Hotel and anniversary celebration were not only an opportunity for attendees to hear from experts in a wide variety of markets speak on critical and timely issues. It also gave those currently involved with the state-chartered credit union system the chance to reacquaint themselves with some former colleagues who were active on the state-chartered credit union scene and to network with each other on best practices. NASCUS' 40th Anniversary Gala Dinner Aug. 25 kicked off the anniversary celebration and was the back-drop for NASCUS presenting the prestigious 2005 Pierre Jay Award to Ella Robinson, retired Commission of the Kentucky Department of Financial Institutions. Robinson has been active with NASCUS for more than 20 years including serving as president, sitting on the NASCUS Board for 10 years and as a member of various committees. Although retired from state government, she continues to serve on the NASCUS Accreditation Review team, is involved with the Conference of State Bank Supervisors (CSBS) and works as a credit union supervision consultant on projects organized by the International Monetary Fund, Caribbean Region Technical Assistance Centre and the World Council of Credit Unions. In between all the informative general and educational sessions, attendees got to kick back and enjoy the 2004 World Series Winners Chicago Cubs vs. Seattle Mariners-game Aug. 26 at the renowned Wrigley Field (the Cubs lost 7-5).
