MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. – Assemblywoman Annie Rabbitt recently dropped into Mid-Hudson Valley Federal Credit Union’s Middletown branch. Rabbitt represents the 97th New York State Assembly district and after hearing of the credit union’s financial literacy service for the Latino market requested a visit. To learn about the credit union movement from the member perspective, Rabbitt spoke with MHVFCU member Brian Dubois who also represented the credit union at his employer Wakefern Foods, which is closing its local facility this fall and moving out of state. Dubois talked up how helpful MHVFCU staffers were after learning of the plant closure. MHVFCU arranged visits to meet with employees and help them prepare financially for a period of unemployment. “It’s important that the credit union is proactive in helping Wakefern employees,” said MHVFCU President/CEO William Spearman. “We were pleased that Assemblywoman Rabbitt took the time to visit us and to learn more about how credit unions work hard to help all their members to cope with the financial difficulties and setbacks they may encounter. Everyone deserves a chance to put their financial situation to rights.” Danielle Marion and Traci Graham, representatives from the New York State Credit Union League, were also present to discuss credit union philosophy and services from a statewide perspective. Assemblywoman Rabbitt is the ranking minority member on the Assembly Local Government Committee, and serves on the Aging and Consumer Protection and Affairs committees. She is also a member of the American-Irish Legislators Society.
