ARLINGTON, Va.-NAFCU adapted FDIC's MoneySmart financial education program for credit unions a couple years ago. Now the group has adapted the adaptation into Spanish. According to NAFCU Director of Marketing Peter Taylor, NAFCU checked into getting a translation done a while back, but at the time it was cost prohibitive. But when NAFCU President and CEO Fred Becker hooked up with Syracuse Cooperative Federal Credit Union's Ron Ehrenreich, the two were able to work out a deal. Basically, NAFCU would pay a number of the credit union's full-time, bilingual staffers to translate the documents. Working with full-time employees, however, NAFCU had to be understanding about a completion date. That time is here, Taylor said. NAFCU will begin distributing CD-ROMs to member credit unions upon request after the Annual Conference free of charge and the Spanish version of MoneySmart will also be available at NAFCU's Web site, www.nafcu.org, free to anyone. "NAFCU is encouraging credit unions to use financial education resources such as this," Taylor said. Advance copies have already been sent to Sunwest Federal Credit Union and Arizona Federal Credit Union.
