MADISON, Wis.-CUNA has developed a new stuffer for credit unions to include in their statements to their members concerning the changes to the bankruptcy code following the passage of the Bankruptcy Abuse and Prevention and Consumer Protection Act. The "What Bankruptcy Reform Means to You" statement stuffer emphasizes how abuse of the bankruptcy system can cost households up to $550 a year in higher consumer prices and rates. It also explains the three key items in the law that CUNA whole-heartedly backed: the means test, mandatory financial counseling prior to filing, and continuing voluntary reaffirmations for credit union members. Orders will be shipped out in June but advanced placements are being accepted.
