HERNDON, Va. – To promote its first annual Ben DeFelice scholarship, Northwest Federal Credit Union staffers donned college gear. Encouraged to participate in ScholarSHIRT Day, staffers sported the college shirt of their choice to get members to apply before the deadline. The one-day dress code included sweatshirts, polo-shirts, t-shirts and sweaters each with a college emblem or logo supporting favorite colleges and trade schools. In addition to employee dress, each branch was decorated with plastic megaphones and signs. "The day was a huge success," said NWFCU Outreach Manager and scholarship organizer Barbara d'Andrade. "ScholarSHIRT Day was a fun day for our employees, who were excited to remind members of our generous scholarships." The Ben DeFelice Scholarship Program will award three $1,500 scholarships to NWFCU members in June 2005 who will attend a full time undergraduate, associate degree program or trade school in the Fall. This scholarship is in honor of NWFCU pioneer Ben DeFelice, whose leadership, dedication and commitment contributed to the success of the credit union and its subsidiary, Northwest Services LLC.
