ARVADA, Colo. – The Colorado Credit Union League's 71st Annual Meeting and Convention was the backdrop for Denver City Attorney Cole Finegan, on behalf of Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper, declaring April 16 as Credit Union Day in Denver. Over 500 credit union professionals and volunteers from 70 credit unions around the state attended the three-day event April 14-16 in Colorado Springs. The theme of this year's convention was "1 in 3″ The Power of Unity reflects the fact that one in three residents in Colorado are members of credit unions. Colorado CUs serve a total of 1.5 million members. Among the invited speakers at the symposium were CUNA Mutual Group President/CEO Jeff Post and author John Alston. Attendees also had the opportunity to hear from Congressman Tom Tancredo (R-Colo.) who spoke about his support for the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act of 2005 (S. 256), and state lawmakers including Michael Merrifield (D-18), Ann Ragsdale (D-35) and John Soper (D-34).
