MADISON, Wis. – Over 140 credit unions are gearing up for the CUNA 2nd Annual Youth Saving Challenge, coinciding with National Credit Union Youth Week, April 17-23, 2005. Sponsored by CUNA, the free program is designed to help credit unions strengthen their relationship with youth and their families by encouraging children to visit their credit union during Youth Week and make a deposit. CUNA will report the deposits and offer $100 cash prizes to youth at 10 participating credit unions. Last year's saving challenge proved quite successful as some16,231 young members deposited nearly $1.4 million in the 101 participating credit unions during the week. This year's event goal is even more ambitious – to have 23,800 youth depositing $1,754,000 and opening 3,700 accounts. With seven weeks to go there is still time for credit unions to register.
