I want to thank Mike Welch for stressing the need for good Public Relations in his column of Jan. 26, "Despite Growing Need, PR Expertise in Short Supply." We have been fortunate to recognize the importance of good public relations – and even more fortunate to recruit a top professional for our effort. Since our VP of Public Relations joined us, we have enjoyed remarkable results. She reports to our SVP of Administration – and not through the marketing function – which we believe helps keep her focus solely on public relations alone. This focus on PR has helped us land on the front page of the Seattle Times, be featured in a consumer segment on the local TV news, and also helped us get a preliminary heads-up on legislation affecting us. I meet at least monthly with the PR person to plot strategy, and she makes the call on all outgoing materials. She has been an invaluable advisor to me and to the entire CU in helping us anticipate challenges and respond quickly to emerging opportunities. I can't emphasize enough the business benefit of this role in our organization. Keep beating the drum Mike – more of us need to do this! Kevin Foster-Keddie President /CEO Washington State Employees Credit Union Olympia, Wash.
